Back in the early 1920s, a football team called the Decatur Staleys moved to Chicago. Their new owner, George Halas, wanted a name that fit the city and the game. Since they played at Wrigley Field—home of the Chicago Cubs—he had an idea.

Football players were bigger and tougher than baseball players, right? If the baseball team had Cubs (baby bears), then his football team would have Bears.

And just like that, the Chicago Bears were born.
